The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia's first national scheme that funds costs associated with disability.  Are you interested in becoming an NDIS participant? This course will walk you through the  National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).


LESSON OBJECTIVES
Before starting your NDIS journey, you must first learn about the program and how it may benefit you. After completing this lesson, you should be able to:
understand what NDIS is;
discover who is in charge of delivering the NDIS; and
identify the supports and services funded by the NDIS.


The NDIS provides reasonable and necessary support budget to its participants.
Reasonable refers to something fair.
Necessary refers to something that is essential.
Hence, the NDIS funds supports and services that:
must be related to the permanent disability and likely to be effective and beneficial to the participant,
should represent a good deal for money,
must not include day-to-day living expenses unrelated to the disability support needs (e.g., groceries), and
should take into account other assistance received by the participant from other providers.
Education, employment, social participation, independence, housing arrangements, and health and well-being are among those that the NDIS may fund.

**CASE 1: ** Rebecca requested that the NDIS fund a smart device (such as an iPad) to be used on apps recommended by her therapist to assist her in managing her disability. This request was supported by a letter from her therapist.
