Drink spiking is as easy as ordering an insidious drink from a non-suspecting bar staff.
If someone asks for the following, you should say no and report the situation to your manager.

Asking to serve more alcohol to a person who looks intoxicated


BEWARE OF UNUSUAL DRINK REQUESTS


Men can be victims of violence and robbery.


Drugs and alcohol in a spiked drink can cause dizziness, fainting, or nausea.


Victims can experience blackouts that can last up to 12 hours.


High dosages of drugs can cause paralysis, coma, and even death.


A new type of spiking—NEEDLE SPIKING
Needle spiking refers to the use of syringes to inject drugs to the victims.

Safeguarding Against Drink Spiking
It’s not always easy to say ‘no’ and refuse service to customers but your firm stance to adhere to policies maintains the safety in our establishment for employees and customers alike.


You are our first line of defense.
Your role is critical in the prevention of illegal and criminal activities that can harm our customers, employees, and our business.


Get the victim(s) to safety.
Find a place where you can speak to the victim(s) and assess their condition. Stay with them and do not allow them to leave the premises. Provide first aid if needed.


Call for help.
If you recognize signs and symptoms of spiking, call an ambulance immediately.
Report the incident to the police.


Test the drink.
Collect the suspected spiked drink and test it. Testing kits should be available in the establishment, both for staff and for guests.
Hand over the results to the responding officers.


Verify that the victim(s) are with a trustworthy companion.
You may ask for details and identification to ensure that the person assisting them is in fact a friend.
If you're in doubt, it is best to keep them on the premises until medical or police assistance can give them a go signal to return home.


Document the incident
Record all the details that you’ve gathered from the victim(s) and other people involved in the Incident Register. This is a very important step in case authorities request information in the future.
