Hazardous materials are materials that pose a threat to both humans and the environment. At the workplace, they may be various materials and components that pose a threat to your health. This course contains the handling, managing, precautions, and effects when exposed to some hazardous materials. 

Hazardous waste poses a significant amount of threat to humans and the environment. In  1976, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was passed. This to create and maintain a framework for proper management and hazardous waste as provided by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

These are wastes that are dangerous and harmful to human health and environment.


The hazardous waste management program uses the term solid waste to denote something that is a waste.


**From industrial manufacturing process wastes to batteries. **


It may come in the forms of liquids, solids, gasses, and sludges.


Hazardous Waste

Shoes, bags, plastics, electronics, and many more are made up of polymers. Polymers had been a part of our daily lives ever since it had been invented. This lesson tackles the causes and precautions workers should be aware and should observe when manufacturing, dealing, and handling polymerics. 

Polymerics Safety

Silica exposure remains a threat to around 2 million workers in the US.
Including more than 100,000 workers in high risk jobs such as abrasive blasting, foundry work, stonecutting, rock drilling, quarry work and tunnelling. This lesson contains the diseases and symptoms that can be experience due to the exposure, as well as addressing prevention and proper handling of crystalline silica. 

**It is the basic component of soil, sand, granite, and many other minerals. **


Quartz is the most common form of crystalline silica.


Cristobalite and Tridymite are two other forms of crystalline silica.


All three forms may become respirable size particles when workers chip, cut, drill, or grind objects that contain crystalline silica.

To monitor any adverse health effects caused by exposures, ATTEND trainings, exposure monitoring, and health screening and surveillance programs.
Awareness is the key.
Know which job tasks in the workplace are prone to an exposure.

Crystalline Silica Exposure

Ensuring the cleanliness and maintaining it requires the use of cleaning chemicals. Handling this product may cause some risks to the workers. This lesson provides an overview of the safe handling of cleaning chemicals. 

Safe Work Practices When Using Cleaning Chemicals.


Know how to properly dilute cleaners and which cleaning chemicals must be diluted


** Remember the procedures in using, storing, and emergency spill procedures for cleaning chemicals**


**Proper use of necessary protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, masks when handling cleaning products. **


Check and operate necessary ventelation systems when cleaning to prevent the buildup of hazardous vapors and allow sufficient airflow.


Label the containers of cleaning products and chemics with respect to their contents and hazards


Do not forget to wash up in the designated cleaning areas after using cleaning chemicals.


Walk-off mats placed inside and outside of entry-ways (to prevent dirt from being tracked into the building)
